Private English and maths tuition is available in and around Bedford, UK. This will give your child the dedicated one-to-one attention they need to focus on their areas for development, something which is not possible as part of a class of 30, however skilled the class teacher. This can either help children to reach the expected standard for their age group if they have fallen behind or give them the knowledge to above expected level.

Weekly tuition is available for both primary (KS2 with a specialism in Years 5 and 6) and secondary age students and costs £35 for an hour’s session (55 minute lesson and 5 minute feedback to parent/ carer afterwards).

Online group tuition

Up till now, I have tutored on a 1-2-1 basis, but with the current financial climate, I want to make private tuition more affordable. Your child’s learning matters, and so many young people have found the reintroduction into schools difficult after Covid. The time away from formal learning has hit our children in ways we could not have predicted.

Are you aware that a lot of tuition companies recruit non-teachers, often those just out of university? I have an in-depth knowledge of the exam requirements and can help your child to achieve their potential.

Using my 15 years of teaching experience, I have created a bespoke learning forum for your child. Instead of paying the 1-2-1 fee of £35 per session, your child can learn in a small group of no more than three other young people. Learning is in blocks of six sessions and priced at £150 per block, payable upfront. This will give your family maximum flexibility for the lowest cost as holidays will not be interrupted.

Across the year, the literature texts covered will be: An Inspector Calls, Macbeth, A Christmas Carol, Jekyll and Hyde and the Power and Conflict poetry anthology. This gives you and your child the freedom to explore the components of your choice.

Included in this price is:
– Small group tuition of no more than four
– Personalised essay and quiz feedback sent to you and your child – retain that aspect of 1-2-1 learning
– A workbook to follow through and fill in during the lesson
– Exemplars to help your child reach their target grade
– A bonus free consultation prior to the first session to personalise the learning

This is the equivalent of having nearly 2 lessons free vs 1-2-1 prices.

Upcoming Courses

AQA Power and Conflict Poems: Each half term will focus on five poems with the final session based on effectively comparing them.

Set 1 – Remains, Poppies, Kamikaze, Tissue and War Photographer
Set 2 – Storm on the Island, The prelude, Ozymandias, London and The Émigrée
Set 3 – Exposure, Checking Out Me History, The Last Duchess, Bayonet Charge and Charge of the Light Brigade

Included with each block of lessons is an editable workbook to either keep on screen or print out and follow along, annotated poems and exemplars. These will be emailed to you for lifelong access. They will also be available online for the duration of the course.

Oral participation within lessons is encouraged but not compulsory. I am happy to receive specific questions via email at least 48-hours before the lesson.

English Language: Nailing your narrative and description writing

Use these lessons to either improve your descriptive writing or to strengthen your skills before the narrative six week block.

Private piano, clarinet and saxophone tuition with Ellen

Ellen teaches the piano, clarinet and saxophone to children and adults in and around Bedford, UK. Each lesson is tailored to the student’s strengths and areas for improvement. They learn to read music and understand the different elements of music theory as they progress. Games are used to reinforce knowledge of key skills such as note reading. Ellen builds on the key skills of scales, aural and sight reading to prepare students for graded exams. Lessons cost £20 for half an hour and take place in students’ houses.
